McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD), Burger King (NYSE:BKC) Noted for Multicultural Efforts

:MCD) and Burger King (NYSE:BKC) have been names as two of the 2010 Best Companies for Multicultural Women as voted by Working Mother magazine. Out of the twenty three companies that have continually supported and remained committed to the programs supporting women of color. The two fast-food chains are the only companies in the quick service niche to be recognized.

For its part McDonald’s was applauded for its development of programs that support the advancement of African-American, Asian, and Hispanic employees. Programs focus on cultural issues and the restaurant also offers specialized training and career development classes for female management personnel. The company also hosts an annual symposium by the Women’s Leadership Network. The group assists multicultural women to learning and achieving professional growth and tactics for improving their business.

Burger King was noted for its mentoring program. The company pairs up newly hired multicultural women with members of the Women’s Leadership Forum. Experienced employees mentors help teach the fundamentals of business. Burger King’s CEO John Chidsey hosts twice-annual meetings of the Diversity Action Council.

General Mills is also on Working Mother’s 2010 list for its seventh consecutive year. The company was featured for its success in the advancement of women of color. They also offer comprehensive resources for its employees including mentoring programs, flexibility programs, and other development opportunities.

Working Mother magazine recognizes those companies commited to the support of multicultural women ‘from the moment they walk in the door and as they grow in the company.”

Others on the list include: Allstate Insurance, American Electric Power, American Express, Cisco, Citi, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Health Care Service Corp, IBM, JPMorgan Chase, KPMG, Kraft Foods, MetLife, PepsiCo, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Procter & Gamble, Sodexo, State Farm Insurance, Verizon, and Walmart.
